Ligue 1 Wrap: Alex rescues PSG, Montpellier beat Nice

A late equaliser from Alex spared Paris Saint-Germain s blushes as the Ligue 1 leaders were held to a 1-1 draw by Guingamp on Saturday.

The defending champions appeared to be heading for only their second league defeat of the season when Mali striker Mustapha Yatabare put the hosts ahead six minutes from time with a header from Rachid Alioui s corner.

However, Jocelyn Gourvennec s men were denied a famous victory just three minutes later when Alex powered home Lucas Moura s delivery to rescue a point that moves PSG six ahead of Monaco, who host Marseille on Sunday.

At the other end of the table, Montpellier boosted their survival hopes with a 3-1 home win over Nice that puts the 2011-12 champions six points clear of the drop zone.

Sunderland have made an approach to sign Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal, .

The full-back spent last season with West Ham United, for whom he made thirty-six appearances in all competitions.

Sarabia: Tuchel tinkering no excuse for PSG´s defeat to Reims

Pablo Sarabia insists injury-enforced changes were no excuse for Paris Saint-Germain s surprise 2-0 loss to Reims in Ligue 1.

The champions lost a home league match for the first in 16 months as their visitors capitalised upon a lacklustre display – substitute Boulaye Dia sealing the points in stoppage time after Hassane Kamara s first-half opener.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel made five changes to his starting XI and was without the likes of Julian Draxler, Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi, but former Sevilla winger Sarabia felt there was still ample quality to get the job done.

It was a game in which we could not find any space, we were unable to knock the ball about with the right pace, and then they penalised us on the break, he told reporters.

VAR would have denied Real Madrid their last two Champions League titles – Vidal

Arturo Vidal has not taken long to aim a dig at Barcelona s fierce rivals Real Madrid by claiming Los Blancos would have not won the previous two Champions Leagues had VAR been in use.

The Chile international swapped Bayern Munich for Camp Nou earlier this month and after only two competitive appearances for the Blaugrana he has taken a swipe at Madrid.

Vidal was part of the Bayern squad that was beaten by Real Madrid in the latter stages of the previous two editions of the competition.

Bayern felt hard done by on both occasions as Madrid got the rub of the green when it came to the big decisions, including Vidal s red card in their quarter-final second leg in April 2017.

That clash went to extra time with the scores level at 3-3 on aggregate but Cristia…

Greece face tough World Cup mission, says coach

Coach Otto Rehhagel said Greece still had a mountain to climb to reach the World Cup knockout phase after his side registered their first ever win at football s showpiece event.

Coming into Thursday s match against Nigeria, the Euro 2004 winners had never won a match or scored a goal in a World Cup finals, finishing pointless in their only other appearance, in the United States in 1994.

They started their campaign in South Africa with a 2-0 defeat to South Korea and their hopes hung by a thread when trailing Nigeria 1-0 Thursday before a red card for Nigeria s Sani Kaita changed the match.

The Greeks came back to win the Group B clash 2-1 after a goal late in the first half by Dimitrios Salpingidis and a second half winner from Vasileios Torosidis.

West Ham United F.C. co-owner David Sullivan has confirmed the club have agreed a deal to sign Alex Song from Barcelona.

Clint Dempsey scored a hat-trick, including two goals in the final five minutes, as Seattle Sounders stole a 4-4 draw at Portland Timbers.

Gignac: I´d die before I signed for PSG

Former Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac says he would rather die than sign for Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The France international spent five years at Stade Velodrome following a move from Toulouse, winning two Coupes de la Ligue and the Trophee des Champions before his surprise move to Tigres in 2015.

The 31-year-old striker has enjoyed a successful career in Mexico but still keeps up to date with the French top flight, in which PSG are battling Monaco for the title this term.

Gignac has not ruled out a return to Ligue 1 before he retires but has made it abundantly clear that he would never join Unai Emery s side.
