Ghana defender John Mensah s late red card against Botswana did not dampen his excitement at scoring the winning goal on Tuesday.
The captain received his second career African Nations Cup red card for a professional foul on the Botswana s Jerome Ramatlhakwane, who was clear on goal mid-way through the second half.
Mensah will miss the two remaining Group D games against Mali and Guinea as a result, but was still pleased with the end result of the match.
I m happy we won with my goal, he said. We had to win to boost our confidence.
Mensah also saw red in the quarter-final of the 2008 Nations Cup against Nigeria, but he said that he believes his side is blessed with good players on the bench who can replace him.
I thank God for my first goal at the Nations Cup, unfortunately I also got a red card, he said.
But we have a good bench and so we have a lot of players who can replace me in the two games I will miss.
